We have standard visiting times for adult wards. Daytime visiting is from 3pm to 4pm and evening visiting is usually scheduled for an hour and is allowed between 6.30pm and 8pm. Visitors are advised to contact the ward directly for specific times. Visits may be allowed out of hours in exceptional circumstances, at the ward manager’s discretion.
Maternity wards, children’s wards and critical care units have their own visiting rules so please contact the wards directly to find out more.
We introduced standard visiting times to general wards after a review involving patients, staff and partner organisations. The aim of the review was to provide opportunities for relatives and friends to visit their loved ones, whilst ensuring comfort and privacy for others. In addition, we wanted to help prevent the spread of infection. To support that, the following rules apply:
- The number of patients at the bedside should not exceed two.
- Visiting outside these times only at the discretion of the nurse in charge.
- Children may visit by arrangement with the ward manager.
- Visitors are asked to use the alcohol gel hand rub that is provided on entering and leaving the ward.
Information on visiting arrangements is displayed in all clinical areas, and an information leaflet is provided to patients before planned admissions.
If you have any comments or concerns about visiting hours, then please consult with your ward manager in the first instance.
